Best Game of the Year Nominees

The Game Awards 2021 is an upcoming award show that will honor the best video games of 2021. The event will be hosted by Geoff Keighley and held to an invited audience at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on December 9, 2021. As with previous shows, it will also feature new game announcements and reveals.

Deathloop

Deathloop is a 2021 first-person shooter game developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks for Microsoft Windows and as a timed console exclusive for the PlayStation 5.

It Takes Two

It Takes Two is an action-adventure platform game developed by Hazelight Studios and published by Electronic Arts. The game was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S in March 2021. Like Hazelight’s debut title A Way Out, the game does not have a single-player option; it is playable only in either online or local split screen co-op between two players.

Metroid Dread

Metroid Dread is an action-adventure game developed by MercurySteam and Nintendo EPD, released on October 8, 2021, for the Nintendo Switch. Players control bounty hunter Samus Aran as she investigates the source of a mysterious transmission on the planet ZDR. It retains the side-scrolling gameplay of previous 2D Metroid games and incorporates stealth elements.

Psychonauts 2

Psychonauts 2 is a platform game developed by Double Fine and published by Xbox Game Studios. The game was announced at The Game Awards 2015 ceremony, and released on August 25, 2021 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, with releases for macOS and Linux planned for a future, unannounced date.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is a 2021 third-person shooter platform game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 5. It is the sixteenth installment in the Ratchet & Clank series, with the game serving as a follow up to both 2013’s Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus and 2016’s Ratchet & Clank remake. Rift Apart was announced in June 2020 at the PlayStation 5 reveal event and was released on June 11, 2021. Upon release the game received generally favorable reviews, with particular praise given to its visuals, combat and technical advancements.

Resident Evil Village

Resident Evil Village is a 2021 survival horror game developed and published by Capcom. It is the sequel to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017). Players control Ethan Winters, who is searching for his kidnapped daughter after a fateful encounter with Chris Redfield, and finds himself in a village filled with mutant creatures. While Village maintains the Resident Evil series’ survival horror elements, the game adopts a more action-oriented gameplay style compared to its predecessor.
