The first of the two WTA 1000 event of the Clay season, the Madrid Open will commence on 29th April and the final to be played on 8th May. 7 out of the top 10 players in the world will battle it out in the Spanish capital.
The three players from the top 10 who will miss the tournament are Sofia Kenin, Bianca Andreescu and Serena Williams. Ashleigh Barty is the top seed at the tournament while Australian Open champion Naomi Osaka is seeded second.
The tournament will be the second WTA 1000 event of the 2021 season. After the French Open, this is probably the most coveted tournament of the Clay season on the WTA tour.
The TOP seeds at WTA Madrid Open
All the seeding have been given according to the rankings. It was speculated that Halep maybe given a 2nd seed despite being the World No. 3 given his record at the tournament. She has reached 3 finals in the last 4 editions and has won 2 titles. But that didn’t happen and Osaka comes in as the 2nd seed.
Svitolina is the fourth seed while Belarussian Aryna Sabalenka is seeded fifth. Karolina Pliskova, Kiki Bertens, Belinda Bencic, Petra Kvitova and Garbine Muguruza wrap up the top 10.
