Thomas Tuchel was himself sacked by PSG on 29th December after a disappointing start to the season. Tuchel’s 75.6% win rate in Ligue 1 – over his two-and-a-half years in Paris – is the highest in the competition’s history. Now he will be tasked with guiding Chelsea to fight for the Premier League and the Champions League, which re-starts in February.

Thomas Tuchel was the Borussia Dortmund manager for 2 years where his attacking style of play caught everyone’s eyes. He shaped the young Dortmund side into one of Europe’s best attacks before leaving for Paris where he had the likes of Neymar, Mbappe and Cavani at his disposal. Tuchel’s credentials and availability made him the perfect fit for the Chelsea squad.

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia described Tuchel as “one of Europe’s best coaches.” She believes that “there is still much to play for and much to achieve, this season and beyond”. His immediate job will be to bring Chelsea out of a rut in the Premier League. Chelsea have won just 2 of their last 8 matches in the league and are 9th in the table.

Tuchel’s task will be to get the best out of German compatriots Timo Werner and Kai Havertz. The duo has struggled to live up to their price tags in their first few months in England. Grooming young talent has always been a priority for him since his Dortmund days.

“I would like to thank Chelsea FC for their confidence in me and my staff,” said Tuchel.

“We all have the greatest respect for Frank Lampard’s work and the legacy he created at Chelsea.”
