Fast bowler Tim Bresnan has claimed that he and Australian umpire Road Tucker were given death threats after being denied the legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar for the 100th international century during a Test Match in 2011.

Bresnan revealed that Tendulkar had completed his 99th century against South Africa in the 2011 World Cup, and while he was on 91 runs in the second innings of the fourth Test at the Oval, Tucker gave the batsman lbw on his ball.

While speaking on the Yorkshire Cricket’s ‘Covers Off’ podcast Bresnan said, “He was on 99 international hundreds and there were no referrals in that series because the BCCI didn’t like it”.
“It was at The Oval in the last Test of the series. This ball, it was probably missing leg anyway, and umpire (Tucker), Aussie lad, shot him out. He was on 80-odd as well (91), definitely going to get it (his century). We win the series and go to number one in the world.” he added.

According to Bresnan, Tucker had to increase his security in view of these threats. After a few months when Bresnan met him and started saying that friend, I had to keep a security guard. He had Police protection around her home in Australia.

“We both got death threats, me and this umpire, we got death threats for ages after,” Bresnan went on.

“I got them on Twitter and he (Tucker) had people writing to him to his home address and stuff, getting proper death threats going, How dare you give him out? It was missing leg.’ I caught up with him a few months later and he was like, ‘Mate, I’ve had to get a security guard and stuff.’ He had police protection around his gaff in Australia.” he added.

Tendulkar was then able to complete his hundred of centuries by scoring a century against Bangladesh during the 2012 Asia Cup. Tendulkar, who retired in October 2013, is the only batsman in the world to score 100 international centuries. He scored 15921 and 18426 runs in his Test and ODI internationals respectively.
