India at Tokyo Olympics: Indian Contingent Chartered Flights Arranged by IOA to leave on 14th July

The Indian Olympic Association has arranged chartered flight for India’s Tokyo Olympics contingent said Secretary General Rajeev Mehta on Saturday. The first batch of the Tokyo bound athletes will leave on 14th July by Air India Chartered flight.

The rest of the Indian contingent will be leaving for Japan between 16th and 19th July. Upon arrival, all athletes, coaches and officials will have to undergo a three day quarantine period. The athletes will have to undergo a three day quarantine at the Olympic village as well. However, this condition will not apply to those who have been training overseas.

“We will have three days of quarantine. The day of arrival is termed as the zero day. After quarantine, we can move around,” the IOA official said at an event organised by the YOUTHINK Foundation and Sunshine Senior Secondary School here to felicitate some of the Indian athletes.

Team India will be represented by 115 athletes over 18 sports. There are many historical firsts for India, including Bhavani Devi, the first Indian to qualify for the Olympics in the sport of fencing. India will also be sending its largest ever contingent of 3 swimmers, 2 of which made the A Standard of Olympic Qualification time, creating history.

8 boxers have qualified for boxing at the Tokyo Olympics, the largest number for India ever. The shooting event boasts of a total of 15 world class shooters securing their berth for the Tokyo Olympics. The Indian hockey teams will comprise of the most number of athletes representing team India at the Olympics this year.
