International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach visited the Olympic village for Tokyo Olympics on Tuesday.

IOC’s social media handle shared a picture of Bach visiting the Athlete’s Village. The caption read as, “This is the place to be! President Bach gets his first glimpse of the Athletes’ Village for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 #Tokyo2020,

Governor of Tokyo, Yuriko Koike met with Thomas Bach on Monday. He said that Japan is fully committed to conducting a safe and secure Olympic Games next year. Yuriko Koike also said that Japan will set an example for future generations by holding the Olympic Games economically.

We will not only achieve cost reductions but leave a new model for future generations of how the Games can be organised,” the IOC media tweeted. Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe received the IOC’s highest award, the Olympic Order in Gold. Abe helped to win the Games in 2013.

Abe made a surprise appearance at the closing ceremony of the 2016 Rio Games dressed as Super Mario. In September, a series of measures were agreed upon by the IOC Coordination Commission and the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee to make the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games fit for the post-corona world.

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics were postponed in March owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. The sports carnival will now be held in July 2021. The Paralympics will start on August 23 next year.
