Tokyo Olympics: Mohammad Reza Geraei wins gold for Iran in Men’s Greco-Roman wrestling

Mohammad Reza Geraei won Gold for Iran

Mohammad Reza Geraei, won the Gold medal for Iran in the Greco-Roman 67kg category. This is Geraei’s first-ever Olympic medal for the 2020 World U-23 Champion. He defeated Ukraine’s Parviz Nasibov, 9-1, in the finals to secure the Gold medal.

Geraei secured the first point in the match and after a long deliberation between the judges Nasibov earned the next one. But that turned out to be the only point that Nasibov was able to secure in the match.

In the round of 32, Geraei started off his campaign with a dominant 8-0 win over Colombia’s Julian Horta. In the Quarter-finals he overcame Frank Stabler, who was representing Germany. Mohammad Reza Geraei put up another dominant show in the semi-finals, scoring a 6-1 win over Georgia’s Ramaz Zoidze.

Parviz Nasibov had reached the finals after winning some hard-fought matches. In the Round of 32, he picked a 5-1 win over Denmark’s Fredrik Bjerrehuus. In the quarterfinals he overcame Russian Olympic Committee’s Artem Surkov. To secure a place in the finals, Nasibov scored a 7-6 win over Egypt’s Mohamed Ibrahim El-Sayed.

Frank Stabler of Germany and Mohamed Ibrahim El-Sayed of Egypt secured bronze medals at Tokyo Olympics 2020

Frank Stabler, Germany picked up a dominant 8-0 win in the repechage round 1, over Colombo’s Julian Horta. In the bronze medal match he defeated Georgia’s Ramaz Zoidze, 5-4.

Mohamed Ibrahim El-Sayed defeated Artem Surkov of Russian Olympic Committee to win the Bronze medal for Egypt.
