Republic of Korea vs Serbia Bronze medal match: Preview

Korea have performed way above the expectations in Tokyo. Nobody gave them a chance against Turkey in the quarterfinal, but they eke out a 3-2 win where the match went to the wire. However, Korea seemed run out of gas as they were no match to Brazil in the semis, losing comprehensively in straight sets 16-25, 16-25, 16-25. Nevertheless, Korea still has a chance to redeem itself with a historic bronze medal, that would end their 45-year drought of an Olympic medal in women’s volleyball.

On the other hand, Serbia would be a little disappointed that they did not make their dominant run count and enter the second straight Olympic final. They finished the group standings at the second position behind Brazil, then blanked Italy 3-0 in the quarters but surprisingly could not offer much fight to USA in the last-four encounter as they lost tamely to the Americans 0-3 (19–25, 15–25, 23–25). Having said that, Serbia has a chance to be back-to-back Olympic medalists.
