A match that started with a lot of back and forth quickly turned into a one-sided affair as Tottenham managed to exploit spaces and use their incredible pace going forward, scoring two goals in quick succession in the first half. Things took a turn for the worse as Wilfred Zaha, shoved Sanchez out of frustration and received his second yellow card reducing another player from an already depleted Crystal Palace squad. Lucas Moura replicated his first-half performance in the second phase of the game and created a bunch of opportunities before eventually turning provider once again to Heung-Min Son as the Lilywhites put the game to bed.

Let’s take a look at the player ratings for the match:-

Tottenham Hotspur

Hugo Lloris (GK) (6.5/10): The Frenchman wasn’t tested at all today and kept composure every time the ball was played back to him.

Japhet Tanganga (7/10): A stalwart defensive showing from Tanganga as he didn’t allow the Palace attackers any breathing room and spread the ball out wide pretty effectively.

Eric Dier (6.5/10): Eric Dier didn’t have to do a lot defensively today and played sensible passes throughout the game.

Davinson Sánchez (7/10): A good performance from Sanchez today with a yellow card for a late lunge being the only chink in his armour.

Sergio Reguilón (7.5/10): Sergio Reguilón linked up well with the attack and had an incredible defensive showing, not giving an inch of space to the Palace attackers.

Oliver Skipp (7/10): Oliver Skipp linked up well with the attack and played some sensible passes to keep the attack going for Spurs.

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg (7/10): A great progressor of the ball, Hojberg played well and didn’t let the Palace attack get started due to clever positioning and strong tackling.

Emerson Royal (7/10): Emerson Royal was an ever-present threat as he ran the channels well and even managed to grab an assist as he delivered a dangerous cross which Lucas Moura managed to get on the end of.

Heung-Min Son (7.5/10): Son was constantly putting the Palace defence on the backfoot with his incredible pace and footwork and his efforts finally paid off as he managed to get on the scoresheet with his last touch of the game.

Lucas Moura (8.5/10): An amazing performance from Lucas Moura, as he burnt through the Palace defence and put the ball on a plate for Harry Kane to score and then, in quick succession, thumped a header past Butland to double the advantage for Spurs. He turned provider once again as he crossed the ball in the six-yard box with Son getting on the end of it.

Harry Kane (7.5/10): A great performance from Harry Kane whose link-up play with his fellow attackers was a delight to watch. He also managed to grab a goal taking his tally of “boxing day” goals to six straight.

Substitutes:

Steven Bergwijn (6.5/10): Bergwijn ran the channels well and created attacking opportunities for Spurs after being subbed on.

Bryan Gil (6.5/10): Bryan Gil tried to provide incisive balls after being subbed on late to further increase Tottenham’s lead but unfortunately, it wasn’t forthcoming.

Tanguy Ndombélé (6.5/10): Bought on to see the game out, Ndombele faired well and did the job he was subbed on to do.

Wilfried Zaha

Jack Butland (GK) (6/10): Jack Butland made some important saves but could’ve done better as he got a glove to Tottenham’s first goal but couldn’t manage to keep it out.

Joel Ward (6.5/10): The experienced Joel Ward dealt with aerial threats well but unfortunately, got bested on the feet by the pace of the Spurs attack.

Joachim Andersen (5.5/10): Joachim Andersen got bullied by Lucas Moura a little bit as a lack of commitment led to the smaller forward leaping over him and scoring a goal.

James Tomkins (5.5/10): An overcommitment from Tomkins on Lucas Moura saw Spurs exploiting the space left behind and scoring a goal. He was also carded for coming across a Spurs player, right on the cusp of halftime.

Tyrick Mitchell (6/10): A mixed performance from Mitchell as he defended well at times but couldn’t keep up with the pace of the Spurs attackers.

Conor Gallagher (7/10): Gallagher linked up well with the attack and was certainly causing some trouble for the Tottenham backline.

Cheikhou Kouyaté (7/10): Kouyate had an average evening as he played sensible passes but couldn’t find anything incisive for the Eagles.

Will Hughes (7/10): Will Hughes had a decent showing as he cut out some important passing lanes and managed to link up well with the defence.

Jordan Ayew (5.5/10): A subpar performance from Jordan Ayew as he couldn’t get in dangerous positions often and, was wasteful with the ball the few times he did.

Odsonne Édouard (6/10): Edouard had an average showing as he lacked service and wasn’t able to get into scoring positions resulting in him eventually being subbed out.

Wilfried Zaha (3/10): A nightmare for Zaha as an unnecessary shove and a bizarre push in the 37th minute led to the Palace talisman seeing two yellow cards and him being sent off with his team being two goals down in the first half.

Substitutes:

Jean-Philippe Mateta (6/10): Mateta lacked service and couldn’t get into scoring positions after being subbed on.

Jeffrey Schlupp (6/10): Getting his chance to have a run, Jeffrey Schlupp didn’t use his time well and lost the ball a bunch of times.
