According to several reports, Chelsea are closing in on a deal to land Norway international, Erling Haaland, to bolster their attack for the upcoming campaign.

The summer transfer window has already seen one of the Blues’ targets, Sergio Aguero, move to Barcelona which has sparked a keen interest in the London club to secure the signature of the Bundesliga star. Chelsea performed particularly well since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel to finish in the top 4 but they could well be termed as the favorites to lift the Premier League trophy next season if a deal between the player and the club materializes.

Though Tuchel’s men have offered a good brand of football last season, the absence of a proper number 9 leading the frontline has seen them struggle on occasions. Much to the disappointment of the supporters, Chelsea have not managed to find a suitable replacement for Diego Costa, who parted ways with the club back in January 2018 after playing an inspiring role in Antonio Conte’s Premier League triumph with the West Londoners.

Haaland to Chelsea is a possibility?

The Bundesliga sensation has been on Chelsea’s radar for a while but the whopping finances required and Dortmund’s lack of interest in selling the star have been the major obstacles for the European champions. A report from Evening Standard suggests that Haaland’s current employers want to keep hold of their talisman even if it results in them losing £65million due to a release clause that would be applicable next summer. As far as the Blues are concerned, the Norwegian’s £150m price tag and salary expectations that could even be a staggering figure of £300,000-a-week, are a bit too high at the moment.

Despite all these roadblocks Chelsea are expected to negotiate and push to secure the signing as a top striker like Haaland could lead them to Premier League glory next season. With Timo Werner not quite repeating his goal record at Leipzig, with the Blues, and Tammy Abraham often been sidelined by the German gaffer, Chelsea’s interest in a dominant number 9 is not something to be surprised of. Unexpectedly enough, Jorginho emerged as Chelsea’s top scorer in the Premier League last season with 7 goals to his name. While the club has already handed Olivier Giroud a contract extension, they are said to be planning to offer Abraham to Dortmund as a part of the Haaland deal.

Tipped as future Ballon D’or winner, Haaland has scored 41 times in 41 games for the German giants this campaign. Haaland to Chelsea initially looked a faint probability with the two Manchester clubs also interested in the 20-year-old. But with Manchester United turning their attention towards Jadon Sancho and Harry Kane being named as City’s number one target, Chelsea could be in for the signing of the season.

The man at the helm at the Bridge, Roman Abramovich is reportedly confident of the player to arrive at Cobham and the club is working intensely to come to a settlement with Dortmund in spite of the latter stating their disagreement on offloading a player as talented as Haaland.

Haaland could be the final piece of the jigsaw for Thomas Tuchel to move closer to all his desires at the club. But it remains to be seen to what extent the club’s administration goes to get the job done.
