UEFA Europa League: West Ham vs Rapid Wien as West Ham United register another win on the continental stage

West Ham United registered a 2-0 victory over the Austrian side Rapid Wien on Thursday night in the UEFA Europa League. This was the first meeting between the two sides and the Hammers came out victorious courtesy of goals from Declan Rice and Said Benrahma in each half. Rapid Wien came close to being awarded a penalty but that decision was reversed after a VAR check.

13Alphonse Areola (6/10)- The French goalkeeper was called into action at times bit held his ground and will be pleased with the clean sheet.

23Issa Diop (7/10)- The Defender had a golden opportunity to turn in the rebound after Declan Rice’s shot hit the frame of the goal but spilled the chance.

15Craig Dawson (7/10)- Dawson came close to scoring the first goal after the cross from Cresswell but his header hit the post.

3Aaron Cresswell (7/10)- The left back was continuously running up and down the pitch and was very good in both defensive and attacking aspects. He delivered some fine crosses into the box.

31Ben Johnson (7/10) – The right back for the Hammers was doing his best to thread in some teasing deliveries for the forwards to put the finishing touches.

7Andriy Yarmolenko (7/10)- The midfielder was very good tonight and spotted the runs made by the forward like brilliantly and delivered the through balls.

41Declan Rice (8/10)- The star man for West Ham United tonight, Declan Rice notched up his second goal this European campaign with a tidy close range finish in the first half from six yards out.

22Saïd Benrahma (8/10)- The winger was making good inroads in the first half with his pace and dribbling. He had a chance to score the second goal but the shot was high. However he made amends for that in the final minutes with a fine curling effort.

9Michail Antonio (7/10)- the forward registered the assist for the first goal as he found Declan Rice in space at the far post and delivered a fine cross.

11Nikola Vlasic (6/10)- The attacking midfielder was not at his best tonight and would’ve wanted to be more involved in the attacking play.

16Mark Noble (6/10)- The experienced midfielder covered a lot of ground tonight and provided the stability to the West Ham United midfield.

Substitutes

Michael Bowen (7/10)- Got the assist for the Said Benrahma goal after his inch perfect layoff for the winger.

Tomas Soucek (6/10) – He found himself in a good position after the cross from Benrahma but hit shot far to the left.

Pablo Fornals (6/10)- Fornals was bright after being brought in and combined well with Benrahma to unleash one shot which was saved.

Manuel Lanzini (5/10)- Lanzini came on to replace Vlasic in the 62nd minute and couldn’t do much.

Rapid Wien

25Paul Gartler (6/10)- The Rapid Wien goalkeeper was average tonight and made some decent saves and on9all honesty couldn’t have done much to prevent the first goal.

6Kevin Wimmer (6/10)- The center back for Rapid Wien had trouble against Antonio all match who confused him with changes in position.

30Leo Greiml (5/10)- Greiml gave away West Ham United a free kick in a dangerous position after the start of the second half and picked up a yellow card.

31Maximilian Ullmann (7/10)- The left back for Rapid Wien was one of the few positives for the club tonight as he delivered crosses into the box on regular intervals.

4Emanuel Aiwu (5/10)- While the left back Ullman advanced well into the opposition’s half, Aiwu couldn’t replicate the same.

8Christoph Knasmüllner (7/10) – A very bright performance indeed from the midfielder for Rapid Wien who continuously created chances for his teammates who couldn’t convert.

14Srdjan Grahovac (5/10) – The midfielder was continuously troubled by the pace of Benrahma and in the end put in a rash challenge to go into the referees book.

16Dejan Petrovic (5/10)- The midfielder was played in the heart of the field in a double pivot formation but couldn’t get any rhythm going.

29Ercan Kara (6/10)- The forward had a crack at goal within the fist five minutes itself but his right footed shot from outside the box was going high.

9Taxiarchis Fountas (6/10)- The striker for Rapid Wien found some opportunities to shoot one in the first half but dragged his shot wide.

36Kevin Arase (6/10)- The forward will be disappointed with his finishing in the first half as he missed loads of opportunities to bring his side back on level terms.

Marco Grull (5/10)- The striker was brought in place of Kara but couldn’t get any substantial shots on target.

Filip Stokjovic (5/10)- Stokjovic was a bit slow in possession but managed to get some flow going for Rapid Wien.
