Junior Dos Santos and Ciryl Gane met in a heavyweight bout on Saturday’s main card at UFC 256 at the UFC’s APEX in Las Vegas.
Dos Santos came into the fight as the underdog, with a four-inch reach disadvantage and a three-fight losing skid against Francis Ngannou, Curtis Blaydes and Jairzinho Rozenstruik all by the way of KO/TKO.
Gane has quickly moved up in the division and become one of the best contenders. Since coming to the UFC, he has won all three of his fights since coming to the UFC, with two of them coming via submission.
Round 1: Gane swung his hands about as both men bounced lightly on their feet. Gane connected with a thigh kick. Dos Santos tried to duck under a punch, and Gane controlled the head briefly before pushing it against the fence. They returned to the center, and Gane landed a leg kick. Dos Santos tried a sneaky uppercut that just missed. Gane landed a nice kick to the body. Dos Santos landed a right to the body and just missed a left up top. He looked ready to start attacking. Gane with a high kick blocked. Low kick from Gane connected. Dos Santos took a few seconds to collect himself, and got back to it. Kicks to the body were traded. Dos Santos tried with a quick right hand that scores. Gane landed another kick to the body. Dos Santos caught a kick but couldn’t get his opponent on the floor. Dos Santos landed with a nice left right combo. The round ends.
Gane continues to land big strikes in the second round
Round 2 – Gane still went during with the kicks. He aimed at the legs and then for the body. Dos Santos tried to land big punches, but no opportunities opened up. Gane moved inside briefly, but again they disengaged quickly. Gane chopped at the legs. Dos Santos briefly staggered a bit. Gane landed a big elbow up top, and Dos Santos fell to the canvas. Gane followed him down and threw subsequent punches to his covering opponent to seal the result. The round ends. Gane wins via TKO.
