UFC bantamweight fighter Louis Smolka finally reveals why he called off the fight against Sean O’Malley at UFC 264.
Louis Smolka and Sean O’Malley were originally scheduled to fight each other at the main card of UFC 264. The fight got called off very recently since “Da Last Samurai” had some setbacks medically. O’Malley now will instead fight another bantamweight who stepped in to cover for Smolka on July 11, Kris Moutinho. Fans were wondering why Louis couldn’t make the cut and Smolka finally revealed why on his social media.
Louis revealed that he had to call off the fight due to a medical condition and is very disappointed that it had to come to this. “I was really excited about this fight. Being from Hawaii, I have that just scrap mentality so if it was solely up to me, I’d still fight. But I have an infection so unfortunately I’ve been deemed medically unfit. It sucks, but we have to be responsible about my health and the health of my training partners and opponent,” Smolka wrote on Instagram.
Louis Smolka wishes to meet the Suga Show down the line
Louis is coming off a win against Jose Alberto Quinonez at UFC Fight Night: Hermansson vs. Vettori. The fighter won via knockout in the second round. He has a record of 17-7-0 in his professional career. A lot of the fans weren’t particularly in approval of this matchup but O’Malley was sure enough excited to fight Louis as we can infer from his YouTube videos. “I understand that Sean is set to stay on the card so I wish him the best. I’m sure we will see each other down the line,” wrote Smolka.
“This is a bummer, but it’s the reality of fight camps and continuous training. We are optimistic that we can get a new date set for you all when my infection clears.” Now Sean will take on Kris Moutinho in the main card which is headlined by the trilogy fight between Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier.
