The UFC women’s Flyweight champion, Valentina Shevchenko will be returning back to action on UFC 266 card scheduled on 25th September to face the number 3rd ranked women’s Flyweight fighter, Lauren Murphy.
Shevchenko is one of the most dominating champions on the UFC roster and she will be coming into this fight with a win against Jessica Andrade in her last fight at UFC 261. This is going to be Shevchenko’s sixth title defense with all her previous opponents falling before the wrath of the Bullet.
Shevchenko holds an overall record of 10-2 inside UFC with her both losses coming against the two-division UFC women champion, Amanda Nunes. On the other hand, her opponent Lauren Murphy is getting her first crack at the UFC title.
Murphy is the former Invicta FC Bantamweight champion and she is coming into this fight, riding a winning streak of five fights with her latest win coming against Joanne Calderwood on UFC 263. During her reign, she secured victories over many notable names in the division such as Roxanne Modafferi and Andrea Lee.
After her win against Calderwood, Lauren Murphy called out Bullet Valentina and she believes she got the tools to beat the champion. It is going to be interesting to see whether she can walk her talk or is it going to be another feather in the cap of Valentina Shevchenko’s title defense.
Shevchenko vs Murphy is expected to be the co-main event of UFC 266
This women’s flyweight fight is expected to be the co-main event of UFC 266’s fight card with the UFC Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski defending his title against Brian Ortega in the main event of the fight card.
Along with this the UFC veteran Nick Diaz is also making his comeback after almost five years to face Robbie Lawler in the five-round nontitle combined co-main event of the evening. With the announcement of these fights, the fight card of UFC 266 looks stacked now.
