The main card of UFC 267 featured some of the most exciting fights of this year. A new interim bantamweight champion was crowned after Petr Yan defeated Cory Sandhagen in a back-and-forth contest and Glover Teixeira fulfilled his dream of becoming the UFC light heavyweight champion at 41 years of age.
Another important fight was between the heavyweight giant Alexander Volkov and Marcin Tybura, Volkov systematically picked his opponent apart and managed to secure the unanimous decision victory that night. Volkov is a legitimate title contender, but with everything happening in the heavyweight division, he is not so sure that he is anywhere near that title.
Talking to MMA Fighting during the post-fight conference, he said, “Right now, I don’t have any names because how I told in the octagon, 11 days ago, my youngest son was born. Right now, I just want to take a little bit of rest to be with my family. After maybe a month, we’ll see what happened in heavyweight, who will be in the rankings because I lost some fights to guys upward from me.”
“I’m ready for any challenge the UFC will give me,” Alexander Volkov is ready to face anyone after UFC 267
Volkov holds lost against the interim heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane, former title challenger Derrick Lewis and another top contender Curtis Blaydes. He wishes to face either of them in the rematch as all of them sit above him in the rankings.
He said, “Maybe we’ll see if one of them wants to make a rematch with me. We will see but I’m ready for any challenge the UFC will give me. I’m here just to do my job.” Volkov looked incredible at UFC 267, and his performance indicated that he is on his way to becoming the heavyweight champion sooner or later. The current champion Francis Ngannou will face the interim champion Ciryl Gane next, and fans are really excited for this one.
