Glover Teixeira has one of a kind cinderella story. It took 20 years of consistency in fighting MMA that brought the oldest first-time UFC champion the golden strap he finally has around his waist. The 42-year-old Brazilian mixed martial artist defeated the preceding light-heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz last Saturday at UFC 267 by a second-round submission finish.

Fans around the world couldn’t be happier for Teixeira‘s win and him becoming the new UFC Lightheavyweight champion after a time when most people retire from the sport of MMA. Teixeira also caught the attention and praise of renowned MMA figures, like former UFC two-division champion and retired mixed martial artist Henry Cejudo.

Cejudo reacted to Teixeira’s win on his show with sports journalist Dave Schmulenson titled ‘The Triple C and the Schmo Show.’ Cejudo told Dave, “This guy has trained with Chuck Liddell, this guy has fought against elite competition like Jon Jones when you’re able to go five rounds against guys like that…the difference was his [Glover’s] experience and his wrestling. I mean the guy literally wrestled him [Jan Blachowicz] to death and he smothered him. [Afterall] He is a world-class jiu-jitsu player [too]”

“I think he’s a nightmare for anybody and if Izzy [Israel Adesanya] decides to go up and fights somebody like Glover Teixeira, he’s in big trouble,” Cejudo told Schmo referring to Adesanya’s last-to-last fight as a middleweight champion to moving up to the light-heavyweight division in an attempt to grab the second gold strap for himself.

But Jan Blachowicz, the then light-heavyweight champion, handed Adesanya his first loss in MMA. Cejudo dismisses the second hope just in case people think Adesanya has chance against someone like Teixeira.

Teixeira was a big underdog with many betting platforms online. The light-heavyweight champions five-fight winning streak has been extended to six after the UFC 267 win and his winning list besides Jan Blachowicz includes Anthony Smith, Thiago Santos, Nikita Krylov, Ion Cutelaba, Ryan Bader, Rashad Evans, Rampage Jackson, Fabio Maldonado and Misha Cirkunov. Teixeira has 33 wins in total with just 7 losses. Surprisingly, Teixeira has 28 finishes out of those 33 wins.

Who do you think to possess the toughest challenge for Glover Teixeira? We have a top contender in Jiri Prochazka being the top contender who’s most likely to get his title shot. We have Alexander Rakic being a top 5 contender for a very long time. And we have an upper coming phenom taking over the light-heavyweight division slowly by the name of Magomed Ankalaev.
