Khamzat Chimaev is back after a year and that too with a bang, as he did let us know in his performance. Chimaev won last Saturday, returning to the UFC Octagon after a year layoff due to Covid complications. More importantly, he won in the same fashion he dominated his three fights last year. Chimaev submitted his opponent, the dangerous UFC Welterweight Li Jingliang in the very first round where Li was left unconscious and hence forgot to tap out.

Chimaev was not just fighting in his fight, he was also talking trash with UFC President Dana White while dominating Li before submitting him. The MMA fans around the world were left in shock at the fact that ring-rust didn’t even touch Khamzat for a bit. MMA legends like Henry Cejudo had to be nothing but highly impressed by Khamzat Chimaev’s aura with just 4 fights in the UFC.

Cejudo talked about Chimaev on his show with sports journalist Dave Schmulenson aka The Schmo titled ‘The Triple C and the Schmo Show.’

Cejudo said “Khamzat [Chimaev] is at another level man he really is the boogeyman…I think he is the toughest challenge for Kamaru Usman [UFC Welterweight Champion]… I think it’s an easy fight with him and Israel Adesanya [UFC Middleweight Champion], I really do.” Cejudo talked about Adesanya considering Chimaev has fought in the middleweight as well.

“Imagine the elite wrestling that Chimaev has. And the attitude and the confidence that he has in his submission game and the ground and pound. I mean this guy is vicious. I am not sure how long the Nigerian Nightmare [Kamaru Usman] has in his career but man that one scares me. He’s scary,” Cejudo continued.

Unsurprisingly, like many people already, Cejudo too has exceptional expectations from Chimaev’s potential. He feels that Chimaev can become the two-division champion. On comparisons with UFC lightweight Islam Makhachev, who also had a spectacular first-round finish of top UFC lightweight Dan Hooker via submission, Cejudo believes that Chimaev is the superior one and is more well rounded.

Who do you think should be placed in front of the “Borz” Khamzat Chimaev next? He has Neil Magny calling him out though, the UFC may listen to Chimaev and probably go down with his callout of Nate Diaz, but isn’t Chimaev worthy enough to face a top-five opponent now, something that will get him closer to the title?
