Jorge Masvidal is going toe to toe with his former best friend and training partner turned rival Colby Covington in a rarefied 5 round non-title fight main event at UFC 272.

Both fighters who are coming off double losses against the current welterweight champion and number 1 pound for pound fighter in the world Kamaru” The Nigerian Nightmare” Usman have their chance of placing themselves back in the title picture with a dominant win at UFC 272.

The friendship turned into the rivalry between the two men which stuck as one of the biggest selling points of the fight as it was the perfect grudge match between the two veterans. Jorge Masvidal has a record of 12-8 in the UFC whereas his nemesis Colby Covington has a record of 11-3 in the UFC.

“Definitely about (my star power), or he’ll try to take credit for it,” says Masvidal. “He hasn’t, I think, broke in all of his pay-per-views combined 500,000 (buys). I don’t have to say what I’ve sold; everybody knows. So it’s definitely solely because of my star power, nothing to do with his.

“He’s got the No. 1 ranking so I’m coming for it,” says the BMF Jorge Masvidal

“Those rankings, as much bullsh*t as I think they are, he does have the No. 1, so there’s no denying me. If I’m No. 1, there’s no denying me, and that’s it. What has to happen, has to happen, but I definitely want the path to the title.” says Masvidal as he reluctantly wants to be Number 1 contender for the title again.

With the current champion, Kamaru Usman confirmed to be in attendance for the UFC 272 main event as he wants to watch his “sons”, Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington throw down this fight is surely set for fireworks as the two fighters are matched stylistically just as much as personal.

And with the top prospect of the welterweight division, Khamzat Chimaev potentially agreeing to fight Gilbert Burns, the welterweight division has been put on notice as the winner of the two fights could very well battle it out to be the number 1 contender.
