Recently Alexander Gustafsson made his heavyweight debut against Fabricio Werdum in July 2020 and lost the fight via submission in the very first round, although Alex has been one of the best light-heavyweights of all time but he never had the chance to hold the gold.

Now after almost a year, Gustafsson is ready to make his comeback, he announced this via an Instagram post, he wrote, “I have spent hours and hours in preparation. This summer I will dig deep inside myself. Warning – I’m coming back stronger than ever. Stay in touch. I will offer you the possibility to follow me all the way.”

But he did not mention the weight class he wants to compete at, if he chooses to compete in the heavyweight division once again then it won’t be a cakewalk for him, the champion Francis Ngannou is better than ever and the contenders are even hungrier. Not to mention the light-heavyweight scene with Jan Blachowicz as the champion.

If Alexander Gustafsson once again competes in the heavyweight division, then his toughest opponent Jon Jones will be waiting for him there, we all know Jones is putting in a lot of work to grab the heavyweight title as well.

He vacated the light-heavyweight title to make this transition, and it is needless to say that Gustafsson was the toughest competition he ever faced, if he can get past Francis Ngannou and Alex can earn himself a title shot then this legendary trilogy match won’t be impossible.

If Alex tries to compete in the light-heavyweight division then it won’t be easy either, champion Jan Blachowicz showcased what he can do when he handed Israel Adesanya his first MMA loss, and there is no scarcity of hungry challengers there a well.

It will be interesting to see what decision he makes and what does the future holds for him.
