Rising lightweight contender, Rafael Fiziev was supposed to face the former champion, Rafael Dos Anjos at the co-main event of UFC 272. These two were supposed to face each other at the main event of UFC Vegas 47, but the fight was moved on to a later date because of visa issues from Fiziev’s side.
Dos Anjos last fought more than a year ago in November 2020 when he defeated Paul Felder via split decision. The former lightweight champion has fought only the very best through most of his career which includes the likes of Anthony Pettis, Benson Henderson, Donald Cerrone, Kevin Lee, Eddie Alvarez, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and Tony Ferguson from lightweight and Kamaru Usman, Colby Covington, Robbie Lawler and Leon Edwards from welterweight.
Fiziev is an upcoming prospect whose record stands 11-1. He is coming off from impressive wins over the likes of Renato Moicano, Bobby Green, and Brad Riddell.
“Saying that I was faking it is complete nonsense“- Rafael Fiziev is not happy with people saying he faked his sickness
Fiziev landed in Vegas, and he got affected by the Coronavirus. He had no choice but to pull out from the fight, and he announced it via Twitter, he wrote, “I’m devastated to announce that I’m out of the fight. I had a great camp and was ready to put on the show, I flew all the way to Vegas from Thailand just to get sick with covid, for 3 days I’m in hotel bed with fever, bones pain and cough.”
Fiziev isn’t too happy with people saying he faked the sickness, he added, “I called out RDA and I still want that fight when my health will allow me to compete again. Apologies to him, but saying that I was faking it is complete nonsense. Time will put everything in place.”
