The last pay-per-view of this year, UFC 269 went down in the history books just a week ago and it opened a door to many unexpected possibilities in the future. Dustin Poirier lost his second Lightweight title fight at the main event of UFC 269 against Charles Oliveira and the champ created an upset and retained his title.

Poirier was devastated after his loss and in a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, Dustin Poirier revealed that he might never fight in the Lightweight division again after UFC 269. Along with this he also received a call out from one of the most popular UFC fighters, Nate Diaz to face him in January. Poirier and Diaz had gone back and forth with each other over social media but the former UFC title contender, Chael Sonnen believes the possibility of this fight actually taking place is very less.

Talking about the same in his recent video on his Youtube channel, Sonnen says, “We get some news as it pretends to Nate Diaz, the UFC extends Nate’s contract but Nate hasn’t signed a new deal. I don’t know what that means, Ariel Helwani posted it. I read that thing five times, still, I fully don’t know what that means.”

“Somewhere they had the ability to extend, I am assuming because Nate was offered a fight which was the promotion’s obligation. But once they complete that obligation and if it doesn’t happen of course a little time gets added to it.”

Chael Sonnen believes Dustin Poirier doesn’t have enough time to fight in January

Nate Diaz called out Dustin Poirier to face him in January, but Poirier just fought against Oliveira and it is going to be impossible for him to move at Welterweight and fight him. That’s why Chael Sonnen believes Conor vs Nate 3 makes more sense right now than Poirier vs Diaz.

Chael Sonnen added, “But I do think that Nate lingering out there wanting a big match and Conor coming back from an injury, we all know that Diaz and Conor is an ace up the sleeve. So Nate Diaz comes out on social media and challenged Dustin Poirier. Now more specifically Nate even has a date and a venue and it’s in January and he tells Poirier don’t be a little bi*ch it’s now or never.”

“I don’t know how it will happen now because Poirier just got out the ring, Poirier just got done and he’s going home for the holidays. I think all of this is going to play out eventually but 155 division has never been this deep and I tell you the toughest division in the sport is 155.”
