After a dominating performance against Alexandar Volkov at the main event of UFC Vegas 30, he has solidified his position as the number contender for a heavyweight title opportunity.

Gane is 15-0 on his professional career and outstruck Volkov to get the clear unanimous decision victory over him, according to Gane he thinks he is now ready to face his former teammate and heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.

He said, “I think today I proved it. I don’t need another fight for the title shot. I think this guy Volkov was a really great challenge to prove it, and I proved it. I did it. So, tomorrow, yes, if the UFC want to match me for the title shot, I’m ready.”

There were questions about whether Gane was ready for the biggest opportunity of his life and this was a clear test for him, and to nobody’s surprise, he passed it with flying colors.

Gane said that he will have to wait before coming back in the octagon again, “I think we can wait. This will give us time to improve in some department of myself. So I can wait, and I have a baby coming next month.”

“Now I’m comfortable. We’re going to fight for the belt,” says Ciryl Gane

During his rise through the rankings, Gane wasn’t so keen on facing his former teammate Ngannou, but now that he is the champion he thinks the stars have aligned perfectly, and now he is ready for him.

“I’m comfortable with this matchup if this matchup is going to happen,” Gane said. “Now, for title, I’m really comfortable with this situation because we was born in the same gym. Before, it was a little bit (uncomfortable), you know? Now I’m comfortable. We’re going to fight for the belt. This is beautiful for us, for me, for him and my coach.”
