Covington had another shot at the title in a rematch with Kamaru Usman. The two first met back in December 2019 at UFC 245 where Usman defeated Covington in his first title defence via fifth-round TKO. But the fight was considered controversial and unfair from Covington’s side. After 3 more title defences, Usman finally met Covington again at UFC 268 and the fight went to distance in the favour of the former. Since then Covington had Usman are taking a different course for their upcoming fights.

Colby Covington took to Instagram to put on a picture of him facing Kamaru Usman at UFC 268 for the final time before the fight and wrote in caption “After 10 rounds, how do people have it scored? us [eagle emoji] us”

Many people have considered Covington to be the second-best welterweight in the MMA world now. There are times when a person works hard till the very end of his goal but couldn’t get to it just because someone better existed at the octagon at the same time. That is the case for Covington, who was behind him but Usman’s toughest challenge to this day. Irrespective of Covington’s reel as a notorious guy, Usman has shown gratitude towards Covington time and again in past for pushing him to his potential.

What do you think is next for both the fighters? For Usman, he has Leon Edwards who’s on a 9 fight winning streak, and last lost to Usman only. For Covington, he has his blood history with Jorge Masvidal and also can fight another former title challenger in Gilbert Burns. What’s more interesting is where will Khamzat Chimaev fit into all of this as he is coming to the top and that too very rapidly.
