Khamzat Chimaev raised a storm at UFC 267, he came back after a long time and dominant his opponent in style. He picked Li Jingliang up from his feet and carried him over to Dana White before submitting him with a rear-naked choke.
People lost their minds over his performance, and many speculated that this guy is for real, and he will be the future champion sooner or later. UFC legend Chael Sonnen claimed that Chimaev is only one fight away from the title shot. He talked about this in his recent interview. He said, “You know what the top story is, Chimaev! Out of everything that happened which includes Teixeira being the oldest champion ever to capture his first belt, Chimaev was the story.
He added, “There is a big message in this as well, let me break the Chimaev match down, getting behind a guy in less than 12 seconds, picking him up off the ground, and having a dialogue with Dana through the fens, is that unsportsmanlike? Yeah probably, it probably is there’s another side to it which shows the level of confidence.”
“Gilbert Burns has a well rounded skill set,” Daniel Cormier believes Burns would be the perfect match for Khamzat Chimaev
Daniel Cormier believes Khamzat has earned the right to face some of the top guys, he wants to see a match between him and Gilbert Burns. He stated, “For Khamzat Chimaev? It’s time to give him one of the higher-ranked guys. And I think a guy that could be good for him is Gilbert Burns. Because Gilbert Burns has a well rounded skill set, he’s a great wrestler, he’s a great jiu-jitsu guy, his standup has improved, and he’s back.”
He added, “Right? So he lost the title fight to Kamaru but then he beat Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson in his last fight and showed that he’s back on the winning track, so that makes sense for Chimaev.”
