The ceremonial weigh-ins just went ahead, and subsequently the final faceoff. It has been a quick rise to the top for Ciryl Gane, just 2 years after making his UFC debut, he is already headlining a massive main event. As for Derrick Lewis, the number 2 ranked heavyweight contender, this is just another headliner bout, and he will be looking forward to making it count.

“For me, it’s a big opportunity, it’s a big challenge” – Ciryl Gane on fighting Derrick Lewis

Derrick Lewis turned up the heat during the faceoffs. ‘The Black Beast’ stared right into Gane, even as Gane remained calm and collected. A scuffle would have broken out, had the officials not stepped in as Lewis and Gane kept staring into each other for quite a while.

At the interview with Jon Anik following the face-off, Ciryl Gane said, “For me, it’s a big opportunity, it’s a big challenge, but I want to prove I can do it.” Anik, then headed to Lewis. The knockout artist had just a few words to say. He said, “Imma bang his a** up.”

The winner of the fight will be taking on Francis Ngannou, the heavyweight champion. If Lewis wins, this will be his second attempt at the heavyweight title, after having fought for the heavyweight title fight previously, against Daniel Cormier in late 2018.

For Gane, it will become one of the greatest success stories, if he manages to beat Lewis. The Frenchman has seen a meteoric rise ever since he made his debut.
