“Nathan?”- Dustin Poirier calls out Nate Diaz heating up online rivalry

Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz

Although, Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz have never fought inside the Octagon, they have a history of having a fight booked that failed to materialize. It was mid-2018. The fight between Poirier and Diaz was set for UFC 230 in November 2018. However, just three weeks ahead of the fight, Poirier pulled out of the fight citing an injury, leaving Diaz frustrated.

Since then, Nate Diaz often hits out at Dustin Poirier online for “ducking him.” The two have been going at it for the past few weeks, after Poirier became the number 1 contender for the lightweight championship, following his defeat of Conor McGregor at UFC 264. More recently, Poirier took to Twitter to call out Nate Diaz.

“Where you at Nathan?”

All Poirier tweeted was – “Nathan?”

The reason Poirier might be calling out Diaz is the fact that ‘The West Coast Gangster’ is a big money fight. He might be past his prime, but he still puts on a show, which was typified at the recently concluded UFC 263. Fighting guys like Conor McGregor and Diaz gets one a fortune, in fact even more than how much one gets on becoming the champion. But, this is just an assumption. Poirier might simply be checking on his old friend Diaz.

Poirier is set to face Charles Oliveira for the lightweight title. The date and venues for the fight are yet to be announced, but it will take place either during late 2021 or early 2022.

As for Diaz, he is fresh off a close contest against Leon Edwards at UFC 263. He will be prepping his brother Nick Diaz, who is set to make a comeback after almost 7 years. The older Diaz takes on Robbie Lawler at UFC 266 in September 2021.
