Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz seemed to have agreed to fight each other according to their recent tweets. Both the fighters have been going back and forth on social media and it looks like they are looking to lay hands on the other. Dustin is coming off an amazing victory against his arch-rival Conor McGregor at UFC 264, settling their trilogy fight. Poirier was already the favorite to fight for the vacant lightweight title but Poirier passed on it and decided to take the big money fight. Now “The Diamond” has all eyes on the lightweight belt.

Recently, Poirier appeared on the “MMA Hour” show with Ariel Helwani. In the show, they spoke about his future plans in the lightweight division and also his anticipated matchup with Diaz. “You know how these negotiations go,” Poirier said on The MMA Hour. “Unless they’re talking to him, and they said something. … Nothing’s been offered to me. I haven’t spoken to the UFC. I can’t say the same for Nate, for Nathaniel. But like I said, I think they will call me soon.”

“I should be fighting for the belt,” says Dustin Poirier

Though Poirier has a lot of desire to fight the Stockton Slugger, the fighter from Louisiana believes it is first sensible to fight Charles Oliveira for the lightweight title. “I think I’m the clear-cut No. 1 guy who should be fighting for the belt,” he said. “I think after the fight, they even said that was the next thing that was going to happen. But we’ll see. I’ve heard people say they think it’s going to happen in December, but that’s just me looking at MMA headlines, so I don’t know what’s going to happen. I have a feeling we’re going to find out soon.”

“He’s a fighter I’ve been watching a long time,” Poirier said of Diaz. “I think our styles match up well. I think it would be a great fight. But I’m not chasing it. There’s a possibility that it could happen, but on my things-to-do list, that’s not the next thing to do.”
