UFC Fight Night : Blaydes VS. Lewis Prelims Results

Top ranked heavyweight contenders Curtis Blaydes and Derrick Lewis clash in the main event of UFC Fight Night 185. Blaydes will be looking forward to getting that ‘ever elusive’ title shot, whereas Lewis would be aiming to move further up in the rankings. But before that, we had the prelims which kicked things off!

Heavyweight : Serghei Spivac vs. Jared Vanderaa

Round 1

Vanderaa began as the aggressor. He landed a low kick. Vanderaa then landed a jab, followed by a leg kick. Spivac then executed a takedown. Although, Vanderaa got back up, Spivac had hold of Vanderaa. He then tripped Vanderaa to the ground and then unleashed bombs. 10-9 Spivac

Spivac went for a successful takedown and repeated what he had done in the first round. His repeated blows opened a cut on Vanderaa. Spivac keeps unloading hefty blows, before the referee waved off the fight. What a win!

Bantamweight : Drako Rodriguez vs. Aiemann Zahabi

Round 1

Rodriguez landed a low kick to begin the round. Rodriguez then went for an uppercut, only for Zahabi to reply with a flurry of. punches. Rodriguez then tried to up the ante, by moving forward. While doing so, he got caught by a big right hand from Zahabi. LIGHTS OUT!

Featherweight : Jamall Emmers vs. Chas Skelly

The fight gets cancelled due to medical reasons on Jamall Emmers’s part.

Women’s flyweight : Shana Dobson vs. Casey O’Neill

Round 1

O’Neill began the round as the aggressor. She landed a front kick, but was met with a big right hand from Dobson. Dobson then evaded a takedown from O’Neill. O’Neill kept taking the fight to the canvas. But, Dobson was up for it, as she kept evading and scrambling back to her feet. But, a determined O’Neill kept dragging the fight to the canvas, and landed some hefty blows. The round ended with Dobson attacking O’Neill’s leg. 10-9 O’Neill

Round 2

O’Neill once again went for the takedown, as the round began. O’Neill’s ground game was just too good for Shana Dobson. Dobson tried umpteen ways to get back to her feet, but of no avail. O’Neill landed a flurry of punches, elbows on a grounded Dobson, as Dobson tried to roll, scramble back to her feet, futilely. She kept landing blows, before the referee waved off the fight. Casey O’Neill remains undefeated! What a debut!

Winner : Casey O’Neill def. Shana Dobson via TKORound 2

Featherweight : Julian Erosa vs. Nate Landwehr

Round 1

Erosa was the aggressor going into the fight. He started off with a front kick. His right hand sent Landwehr to the floor. But, Landwehr got back up. And again Landwehr was met with a flying knee this time. Erosa then finished an already rocked Landwehr with punches. What a win!

Winner : Casey O’Neil def. Shana Dobson via TKO (punches) – Round 2, 3:41

Bantamweight: John Castaneda vs. Eddie Wineland

Round 1: Wineland takes the first step towards making it aggressive. They both trade kicks and Wineland adds in a right hand in the middle. Castaneda is engaging and circling the octagon while Wineland acts as the aggressor. Castaneda tries to take a swing at Wineland but Eddie is in full control of the fight. Just when Wineland thought he was comfortable Castaneda lands a right and a flurry of punches to follow as Wineland crashes to the floor. Castaneda keeps punching and the game is over.

Featherweight: Danny Chavez vs. Jared Gordon

Round 1: Gordon is found blocking thigh kick right off the bat from Chevez. Chevez continues with his kicks and hits Gordon low followed by a flurry of punches from Gordon. Both the fighters were at a good pace throughout the fight looking to damage the opponent. Low kicks were being traded before Gordon’s corner instructed him to go for the body. The round ends with both men trading punches. 10-9, Gordon!!

Round 2: Both men waste no time going at each other in the second round. Gordon pops back to his feet immediately as Chevez tries to go for a takedown. Jared throws a couple of punches only for Chevez to get him good with a kick. Gordon, this time goes for the takedown and settles on top of Chevez. Jared is focused on being on top of Chevez and throws punches down at him. The round ends with Gordon throwing punches, 10-9 to Gordon!

Round 3: Again no time wasted to get themselves engaged into the fight. This time Chevez sees some success with the punches, but Gordon has a lot of fire power. Gordon manages to trip Chevez to the Canvas. Jared is firm and doesn’t let Chevez scoot up top. Just when Chevez creates space for himself with his feet Gordon pushes him towards the fence and clinches. Chevez finally breaks free as the round ends. The final round ends, 10-9 to Gordon!!

Winner : Jared Gordon def. Danny Chavez via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
