Gilbert Burns has been linked to fighting one of the biggest MMA stars in the world, Khamzat Chimaev. The Brazilian responds to Khamzat’s claims of cruising through the fight if it ever happens.
Both, Khamzat Chimaev and Gilbert Burns have shown a willingness to fight each other in the octagon. The two have even agreed on personal terms for a perfect date to fight each other. However, there has been no official confirmation from the promotion. This has not stopped the former welterweight title contender from training for his matchup against Chimaev.
In the recent interview with MMA reporter The Schmo, Burns talks about where the fight currently stands in terms of the contract and responds to Khamzat saying he would steamroll the Jiu-Jitsu champion in a fight. “Just waiting on the UFC with the confirmation and the contract. But I’m already in camp and I’m already getting ready for April 9 in Jacksonville against Chimaev. That’s what I see,” said Burns talking to the Schmo.
“Let him be overconfident,” says Gilbert Burns on Khamzat Chimaev’s trash talking
“I think he is confident. He says whatever he wants. I think he is very good. But I am the biggest he is going to show. I respect the guy, I think he is very very tough but let him be overconfident,” said Burns talking to Schmo. Khamzat has fought four times in the UFC and has steamrolled all four of them. The fighter is yet to however face the “creme de la creme” of the welterweight division and a fight with Burns will be his first experience.
“Just make sure you guys get the PPV for April 9 and I am excited. Let him talk and I have no answer to him,” said Burns talking about Chimaev’s bold claims. Burns and Chimaev are eyeing to fight in the UFC 273 PPV card. Burns and his team have requested for a five-round fight but that does not seem likely.
UFC 273 will be headlined by the featherweight matchup between Alexander Volkanovski vs The Korean Zombie and the co-main event is booked for the bantamweight title rematch between Aljamain Sterling and Petr Yan.
