Khabib Nurmagomedov might have retired, but his legacy still lives on, and will, forever. ‘The Eagle’ hung up his gloves after coasting past Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, back in October 2020. After having given word to his mother that he would not step inside the Octagon, without his late father by the ringside, Khabib retired with a record of 29 wins and 0 losses.

In his latest Instagram post, Khabib Nurmagomedov posted a series of pictures, that showed him brutalizing Dustin Poirier at UFC 242, back in September 2019. His post comes 2 years after the fight, that was held in Yas Island. Khabib executed a rear-naked choke to finish Poirier.

Dustin Poirier has come a long way since his loss against Khabib Nurmagomedov

Khabib posted the caption in Russian, which when translated to English read- "And then the time comes and you shut them up, in the truest sense of the word."

Since that fight, Khabib fought once, and it was against Gaethje. Following his retirement, he has taken up coaching, and is also the owner of Eagle Fighting Championships. There is absolutely no chance of the Dagestani returning to the Octagon.

Poirier, on the other hand, has come a long way since that night at Yas Island. He beat Dan Hooker, a year later, in 2020, which earned him a revenge match against Conor McGregor at UFC 257. In January 2021, Poirier became the first man to knock McGregor out, exacting revenge for his UFC 178 loss.

‘The Diamond’ once again earned a victory over McGregor at UFC 264 (in a trilogy match). This time McGregor’s left ankle snapped towards the end of the first round, resulting in a TKO (due to a doctor stoppage) win for Poirier. He will now be taking on Charles Oliveira for the lightweight title. The fight is expected to take place at UFC 266.
