“I want to fight with him”- Khamzat Chimaev open to fighting Robert Whittaker to set up Israel Adesanya clash
Khamzat Chimaev is ready to fight Robert Whittaker
Khamzat Chimaev is on a 4 fight win streak not having lost since debuting with the UFC. Chimaev talks about the prospect of fighting Robert Whittaker on way to the Middleweight title with Darren Till on The Triple C and Schmo Show.
Chimaev knows that Usman is currently set to take on Leon Edwards as the next title challenger, so it might be a while before he gets his shot at the belt. When asked if he would consider fighting Robert Whittaker at Middleweight, Borz thought it was likely to happen if Usman took too long to return to the octagon.
A fight against Whittaker would be a fast track to the Middleweight Championship if the Welterweight Champion wouldn’t give him the fight. Whittaker is currently #1 contender at middleweight but his last fight was a loss against Adesanya. Khamzat doesn’t see the difficulty in beating a fighter like Adesanya, especially since he was taken down by a guy like Whittaker who chose to rely on his striking during his fights. Till agreed that Chimaev could be the one to dethrone the Middleweight King and threw in that he’d beat Khamzat soon after.
Khamzat Chimaev set to fight Gilbert Burns
Chimaev has been causing tidal waves ever since joining the UFC, catapulting to star status in just 4 fights. He is scheduled to fight Gilbert Burns at UFC 273, the winner will probably go on to challenge Kamaru Usman for the welterweight title. The fight is considered to be a real test for Chimaev who has walked through all of his previous opponents.
Burns has already lost to Usman once and is already gunning for a title fight after his victory against Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson. Chimaev is however the public’s favorite and is predicted to most likely to emerge victorious.
