Leon Edwards has nothing but wins inside the octagon for the last 6 years but a title shot still seems far from him. The welterweight champion Kamaru Usman’s manager has come clear that Leon needs to beat Jorge Masvidal before he gets to the “Nigerian Nightmare”.

Leon Edwards has 10 wins in his last 11 bouts with one “No Contest” fight. His last loss in the octagon has come against the champion Usman at UFC on Fox 17: Dos Anjos vs. Cerrone. Since that defeat, he has been very dominant in the octagon and truly deserves a title shot. But the welterweight division is as packed as it can get. A handful of fighters could get the title shot and make a strong argument for themselves. Leon is coming off a stunning fight against Nate Diaz at UFC 263 which he won by unanimous decision but got a skid because of his last minute of the fight.

Ali Abdelaziz, the manager of Kamaru Usman says that Edwards needs to beat a big name before he gets to Usman. According to Ali, despite his winning streak, it holds no significance because of the fighters he has beaten. Ali spoke about this talking to MMA Junkie’s John Morgan.

“Kamaru is done fighting people for free. We’re not interested in Leon unless he fights someone like Masvidal at MSG. If not, guys like Luque who fight the best will pass him up,” said Ali to the reporter about Usman’s next fight. There have been a lot of signs that are leading to an Edwards vs Masvidal fight. Even the UFC President Dana White has said that many times in interviews.

Jorge Masvidal is coming off two consecutive losses against the champion. But Masvidal is still a fight that the fan likes to see. Edwards recently got the big money fight against Diaz and now a fight against Masvidal would definitely add to his fighter’s purse. Edwards has already called out Masvidal and asked “Gamebred” to fight him. Do you think Edwards and Masvidal is the right matchup to make?
