Leon Edwards suffered a major scare against Nate Diaz in the final round at UFC 263, even as he managed to come out unscathed eventually winning via. unanimous decision. Despite winning the fight 49-46 on all three judges’ scorecards, Edwards looked lost due to the hits he received from Diaz towards the end of the fifth round.

Following Edwards’ performance, UFC Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman responded saying that he was not impressed with the way Leon Edwards went about. In a tweet from Brett Okamoto of ESPN, which read that Usman had said, “That don’t help you. I guess no one deserves it.”

“The world knows what I deserve next” – Leon Edwards

However, Edwards sounded determined to get the title shot next. He clarified his stance stating that he has been the one who has been turning up for all the fights, never saying no to any of the opponents.

He was quoted as saying, “I think the world knows what I deserve next. I deserve the title shot next. Like I said that’s 9 in a row. There’s no one else who’s doing what I’m doing in the sport. I’m the one going out there and accepting all the fights. All these unranked opponents, Khamzat [Chimaev], Diaz [Nate], Belal [Muhammad]. I’m the one that’s saying yes. I think the world knows what I deserves next.”

Edwards has now stitched up 9 wins in a row. His last loss was against Kamaru Usman in December 2015. This would probably be the best scenario to set up a rematch, should Usman accept.

Do you think Leon Edwards has earned his right to challenge for the title next? Or should ‘The Brit’ fight at least once before getting a title shot?
