“Just like when he fought Anderson Silva,” Marlon Vera shares a fiery response to Chael Sonnen claiming Frankie Edgar looked good before getting knocked out at UFC 268
Marlon Vera, Frankie Edgar and Chael Sonnen
The former UFC Lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar faced the second consecutive KO loss of this year while fighting against the number 11th ranked UFC Bantamweight fighter, Marlon Vera at UFC 268. Many started questioning the future of Edgar after this devastating loss while the former UFC Middleweight and Light Heavyweight title challenger, Chael Sonnen believes Frankie Edgar showed in this fight that he is still far from hanging his gloves.
Edgar was ahead on the judge’s scorecard after the end of the second round in his fight against Marlon Vera, but Vera knocked him out with a front kick to the face, and the former champion crumbled down with one minute left on the clock for the fight to end.
Chael Sonnen has been one of the biggest supporters of Frankie Edgar over the years and he also claimed multiple times that Edgar is one of his favorite fighters. While talking about his performance against Marlon Vera, on his personal Youtube channel, Sonnen says,
“Frankie won every bit of that fight, Frankie won every exchange, every round, and every minute of that fight. He lost one second of it – one second, and boom: kicked in the mouth, falls down, the fight gets stopped. That’s a hard way to go out. Frankie definitely proved to us he could still do this.”
“He definitely proved to us he still trains, he’s still in great shape, he’s got the speed, he’s got the power, he’s got the range. His boxing was on point digging to the body. Frankie looked great. He lost one second. We don’t know if we’re going to see a future Hall of Famer, a former champion of the world again because he lost one second of a 13 and a half minute fight? Man, that’s tough.” {h/T MMA Mania}
Marlon Vera mocks Chael Sonnen for claiming Edgar dominated him
Marlon Vera extended his win streak to two fights with a win against Edgar and this loss pushed Frankie Edgar out of the top 10 UFC Bantamweight rankings. Vera showed utmost respect to Frankie Edgar in his interviews after the fight, but he didn’t like Sonnen claiming that he was dominated by Edgar throughout the fight.
Replying to MMA Junkie’s Twitter account, Vera mocked Chael Sonnen, saying, “Just like when he fought Anderson Silva,” the bad guy of UFC hasn’t shared a response to Edgar until now but it is going to be interesting to see how Sonnen is going to respond to this insult.
