Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier trilogy fight is fast approaching. The pair will fight it out in the main event of UFC 264, next weekend in Las Vegas. The scoreline in their rivalry currently reads 1-1, after Poirier recently exacted revenge at UFC 257 by knocking out McGregor (his first-ever knockout loss). McGregor had beaten Poirier way back in September 2014 at UFC 178.
The winner of the fight will be taking on the newly-crowned lightweight champion Charles Oliveira for the lightweight title. Elsewhere, in an interview with MMA Uncensored, Vettori was asked if he would be in attendance in Las Vegas to witness the trilogy bout. Vettori said that he wouldn’t be available, but he gave his prediction for the fight.
“No, I won’t be at the event” – Marvin Vettori on attending Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier 3
Vettori was quoted as saying, “No, I won’t be at the event… I think Poirier (will) still do it again. I think so.” [via MMA Uncensored]
Poirier had already taken a huge risk by agreeing to fight McGregor in a trilogy bout. He was in fact, offered the title shot for the vacant lightweight title. In a bid to chase legacy and greatness, Poirier declined the lightweight title bout, and instead sought to settle the scores in his 7-year long rivalry.
As for McGregor, it is a make or break situation. A win here would put him right in the mix. But a loss might even cause him to lose relevance in the lightweight division. It might affect him terribly.
Do you agree with Marvin Vettori’s prediction?
