Ronda Rousey puts all the unwritten rules about having sex before fights right into the bin. The former UFC champ actually believes in quite the opposite!
There is always this unspoken rule in the fighting fraternity that a fighter must not indulge in sexual activities ahead of his fight and in training camp. It is strongly believed that having intercourse before a fight will affect the testosterone levels of a fighter.
Ronda Rousey, who was one of the pioneers in female mixed martial arts and a true superstar did not care for any of those myths. The female fighter actually was all for having sex before her fights. On the Jim Rome show back in 2012, Rousey revealed how sex helps fighters especially female fighters to perform better in fights.
“I mean for girls it raises your testosterone, so I try to have as much sex as possible before a fight,” said Rousey talking on the Jim Rome show. “Not with everybody. I don’t put out Craigslist ads or anything, but you know, if I got a steady, I’m gonna be like, ‘Yo. Fight time’s coming up,'” Rousey jokingly added.
Ronda Rousey questions the myth that celibacy helps fighters
Several studies have shown that the concept of having sex lowers your testosterone levels is indeed a myth. Rousey, from what research she has managed to do also believes in the same. The UFC superstar encourages male fighters to have sex.
“For the guys, I think that’s a little bit excessive. A lot of the studies I’ve read about it, it’s not really substantiated the claim that if you abstain from having sex for that long it actually raises your testosterone. You actually might start producing less,” said Rousey in her interview.
Ronda Rousey has now transitioned from being a mixed martial artist to a full-time pro wrestler. She is one of the biggest stars on the WWE roster. Rousey’s longevity in combat sports should truly be commended.
