Dustin Poirier is going to take on the true legend of the sport, Nate Diaz in a welterweight contest. Poirier lost the lightweight title bout against Charles Oliveira at the main event of UFC 270. It was his second shot at the undisputed title, and he wasn’t sure if he wanted to fight anymore.
He was challenged by Nate Diaz, and that sparked his interest. These two have been going back and forth for a long time, and Diaz recently announced that he wants to retire from MMA after this one. He talked about this in a recent interview with TMZ Sports, he said, “I would like to fight Dustin Poirier like right now. I’ve been trying to do so I didn’t mix up it’s him and them and the game. I’m trying to you know what I’m saying… I want to fight now what’s up Dana White let’s get this retirement fight cracking so I can get out of this.”
Poirier reacted to this, and he wrote, “Vamos.”

Poirier talked about this fight at UFC 271 press conference, he claims his team is 100% ready, and they are just waiting on Diaz to confirm the dated, “I want the fight, and he wants it, as well. I have no clue. On my side, let’s go. On his side and the UFC’s, they have to get it figured out. But I’m ready to rock. I think there’s a good chance it’s going to happen. I think summer is a good target if I had to put one on the calendar. I’m not sure, but I have a good feeling is going to happen.”
“I’m not sure if I’m going to stay at 170 pounds, but this fight makes sense. I just want to be in fights that mean something to me. Nate is a guy that I grew up watching fight. I respect him and his brother. I think stylistically, it’s a fun fight for the fans. This is a Fight of the Year-type of fight, and those are the fights I want to be a part of,” Poirier concluded.
