Paul took a moment in between the fights, and made the announcement, he said, “It’s been really since February since I fought Dan Hooker back in New Zealand, I got the fire back a little bit when I fought RDA on a five days’ notice I thought it was back and since then I’ve spent most of my days swimming, biking, and running and enjoying commentary enjoying my time with my family.”

“I feel like it got to a point where I just… I don’t have that burning desire to fight for many more years to become the champion, I always say if I don’t see that title picture in future then I’ll retire and I’d do for my friends my family and to save myself.”

He continued, “I’m 37 years old I feel very fresh I love the UFC with all my heart and for everything they’ve given me and for every opportunity I’ve ever had to be sitting here in this desk to be working on television was something I’ve always wanted to do, and I’m gonna keep doing that and I’m retiring officially from the sport of mixed martial art and UFC I got as high as number 6 and got pretty damn close to fighting for the title, and I fought some of the baddest dudes in this division and I want to thank them as well.”
