UFC Lightheavyweight Thiago Santos and Magomed Ankalaev have been approached to fight each other next year i.e. 2021 on March 12 positioned for the main event of a Fight Night. The news was first reported by Brett Okamoto of ESPN MMA.

Santos is a former light-heavyweight title challenger where he recently came back to winning track after a three-fight skid by defeating Johnny Walker via unanimous decision. Ankalaev on the other hand has a similar victory over former title challenger Volkan Oezdemir.

The fight is expected to most likely take place at UFC Apex, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Brett Okamoto took to Twitter to tweet “Alright … Magomed Ankalaev (@AnkalaevM) has looked like the real deal as of late. We’ll know for sure after this one. Ankalaev vs. Thiago Santos (@TMarretaMMA) is in the works to headline a UFC Fight Night on March 12, per sources.”

Santos fought the light-heavyweight great Jon Jones for the light-heavyweight title, to whom he lost via split decision. But regardless, Santos made his mark on the UFC Octagon with notable wins over Nate Marquardt, Jack Hermansson, Anthony Smith, Kevin Holland, Jimi Manuwa and former UFC champion Jan Blachowicz. He is a striking heavy martial artist with muay-Thai style.

Magomed Ankalaev busted into the scenes of the UFC losing his first pro-MMA bout to Paul Craig via submission, but right after it, went on a reckless seven-fight win streak that included his recent victory over the very dangerous Volkan Oezdemir. Ankalaev finished 4 of those fights via knockout and is on a rapid rise to the top contenders.

What do you think of this matchup? Who do you think gets the win? This is a very significant fight for the light-heavyweight division and the winner should therefore have just one more fight in the column against a top contender to get to a title shot.
