Mike Brown, American Top Team coach has tested positive for COVID-19, which means that he will no longer be there in Jorge Masvidal’s corner when Mesvidal has the biggest fight of his career.

Mesvidal (35-13 MMA, 12-6 UFC) who is supposed to fight the Nigerian Nightmare (16-1) this weekend, is surely going to miss his head coach, given the fight was was held on a short notice of just six days beforehand.

Brown testing positive for Covid-19 resulted in him not being allowed to board the Chartered Flight to Abu Dhabi, thus missing UFC 251.

Brown’s absence comes as one of the toughest loss for Masvidal, who would have wanted Brown more than anything else to be in his Corner on the biggest fight of his career.

Brown is one of the most influential person in Masvidal’s career. Talking to ESPN Masvidal said,” It sucked emotionally just because I want him there. When I get that belt, I need this individual to be there, because he’s a huge part of my career. He’s been there for such a long time. We have been friends for a long time, as well. It was just like, it took the air from all of us. Every single one of me and my corner men were devastated by it. But thank god (that) Mike has no symptoms, nothing.”

While talking to ESPN, Mike brown was equally emotional, expressing his heartbreak in not being able be with Masvidal on the greatest night of his career, also expressed his regrets saying,” Just heartbroken I’m not going to see Jorge win the world championship in person. Nobody deserves it more than this guy. Nobody has paid more dues. Jorge is also one of the most thoughtful athletes I’ve ever met. He makes everyone feel they are with him and a huge part of this journey. The truth is this guy has been honing his skills for more than 20 years and developed one of the highest fight IQ the sport has ever seen. As far as being COVID- positive, I feel good. The only pain I feel is in my heart.”

Brown himself was a UFC fighter (26-9) who decided to become a head trainer at the American top team after retirement. He was closely associated with Masvidal and had been training him for years.

Masvial is supposed to Face Kamaru Usman on Sunday 12 july at UFC 251.
