UFC Vegas 39: The UFC is back to their Apex Facility following UFC Vegas 38. The event is set to be headlined by a women’s strawweight fight between Mackenzie Dern and Marina Rodriguez. Dern is coming off a submission win against Nina Nunes at UFC on ABC: Vettori vs Holland. Rodriguez, on the other hand, is coming off a unanimous decision win over Michelle Waterson.

However, before that, we had the prelims that kicked things off. Here are the results from the UFC Vegas 39: Mackenzie Dern vs Marina Rodriguez prelims.

Lightweight: Steve Garcia vs Charlie Ontiveros

Round 1:

Early knockdown for the underdog Ontiveros. He got off to a brilliant start. He caught him clean with another strike immediately. However, Garcia recovered and executed the first takedown of the fight. Another takedown by Garcia followed by a full mount. Plenty of ground control from Garcia. Towards the end of the round, Garcia caught the grounded Ontiveros with a big left hand. 10-9 Ontiveros

Round 2:

A busted open Ontiveros cracked Garcia with some good strikes, almost scoring another knockdown. They began swinging wildly. Garcia once again put him on the ground. Massive elbows from Garcia from the top position. A flurry of strikes from Garcia finished Ontiveros. What a win.

Women’s Strawweight: Lupita Godinez vs Silvana Gomez Juarez

Round 1:

Early right hand from Godinez. A bunch of strikes and Godinez followed it up with a brilliant takedown. Godinez was just too strong. Another takedown from Godinez followed. Knee to the head by Godinez followed by a push kick. Belly down armbar and Gomez tapped. What total domination!

Featherweight: Charles Rosa vs Damon Jackson

Round 1:

Action shifted to the fence after Damon Jackson got off to an aggressive start. Big knee from Rosa. Head kick from Jackson. Clean strike from Jackson while Rosa went for a low leg kick. Another big right hand from Jackson. Quick takedown from Jackson. Big right hand from Jackson just as Rosa went for the heel hook. Brilliant end to the round by Jackson with massive ground strikes. 10-9 Jackson

Round 2:

Leg kicks from both began the round. Jackson took Rosa’s back, and executed a takedown. Another takedown moments later followed. Massive elbows from Jackson from a grounded position. 10-9 Jackson

Right at the sound of the bell, Rosa caused a massive gash above the right eye of Jackson. Blood oozed like a fountain painting the canvas red. A while later the fight resumed. A takedown from Jackson right after the resumption. A struggle for submission ensued between the pair. Side control for Jackson with a minute left. Not much of action in a rather massively action-packed fight. 10-9 Rosa

Winner: Damon Jackson def. Charles Rosa via. unanimous decision

Heavyweight: Alexandr Romanov vs Jared Vanderaa

Round 1:

Measured approach from both the fighters. Big takedown from Romanov after defending a guillotine. Another takedown from Romanov followed. And another followed. Romanov was just tossing around Vanderaa. Wild swinging from both ended the round. 10-9 Romanov

Round 2:

Takedown from Romanov began the round. Romanov was putting on strike fest. Massive elbows from Romanov. He just kept pummeling Vanderaa. Umpteen strikes from Romanov followed. Vanderaa was in deep trouble. Big shots from Romanov. What a performance.
