Derrick Lewis is scheduled to face Chris Daukaus at the main event of UFC Vegas 45 this weekend. The fight is set to take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. This event will be the final event of the year 2021 from the Ultimate Fighting Championship. There is no doubt that the year will end on a high given both Lewis and Daukaus are exciting fighters.

Chris might be a stunning opponent but the recent title challenger, Derrick already has an opponent in mind for his next bout coming out of UFC Vegas 45. The greatest UFC heavyweight of all time, Stipe Miocic seems to be the ideal matchup for the fighter from Houston. Lewis expressed his interest to take on Miocic in the recent press conference.

“I would like to fight for the title at the end of next year. That would be great. You know, get through Daukaus, and god willing, I come out with the win…I would like to fight Stipe next,” said the “Black Beast” talking to the media ahead of his big fight against Chris.

Lewis is coming off a rather disappointing loss against the current interim heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane at UFC 265. The fighter from Houston was expected to put on a show for his home crowd but things went south Gane put out a masterclass defeating Lewis in the third round via TKO. Stipe, on the other hand, is coming off a title fight defeat against Francis Ngannou at UFC 260. The veteran lost via a devastating KO to lose his belt to the Cameroonian fighter.

Though Lewis has shown interest in fighting Stipe, it is only out of respect and no personal grudge. Lewis believes he deserves to fight the best and fighting Stipe would do justice. “Nothing against Stipe or nothing like that but I don’t feel like I have nothing to prove. It’s just a guy that I have never fought. I know he is like one of the best of all time so I just want to fight him just because. That’s all, no disrespect or anything,” clarified Derrick.
