Back in the day, both of the fighters used to train together and were great friends. Following a fallout, both became arch nemeses of each other and the rivalry continues till date. It all happened due to Francis “The Predator” Ngannou switched to a different training center or was supposedly “kicked out.”

Ngannou has gained himself a reputation of being a top level fighter with a one-punch knockout ability that he has gained after training over the years. This training paid off when he won the title against Stipe Miocic at UFC 260. Ciryl Gane could also come on top, thanks to the control on his emotions.

The former heavyweight title holder, Fabricio Werdum is pretty confident that Gane is better than Ngannou. Talking to MMA Junkie, he said, “It’s a very good match up because both used to train together before. There was that one video that had came out of their sparring and the Frenchman looked better. The champion Francis Ngannou is very good, obviously. He’s very strong, and he’s very impressive.”

He wasn’t all praises for Ngannou though, “I don’t find him to be a very complete fighter, but he’s a champion, so it’s hard to criticize him. I do believe he lacks on the ground. But maybe the Frenchman also lacks on the ground. We haven’t seen him, so it could be a fight on the feet.”

When asked about why he is rooting for Gane, he replied, “I think Gane can surprise Ngannou because they used to train together and Gane is very conscious, fights well and is calm. Ngannou is calm, but he can be a bit emotional. He’s going to have to watch out. I put my money on the Frenchman. He’s intelligent, calm, controls the fight and manages distance well.”

Gane became the interim champion by defeating Derrick Lewis at UFC 265. This win meant that the record of the Frenchman showed a clear slate with no losses and a win streak of 10. Winning this fight will mean that Gane will become the undisputed champion in just his eighth fight post-promotion.
