Zhang Weili lost her UFC strawweight title back in April 2021. Rose Namajunas knocked her out in the very first round, and there seems to be no end to the number of excuses coming from Weili.

Rose dropped Weili with a perfectly placed head kick and then took care of the business on the ground, Weili wasn’t satisfied with the stoppage but she accepted the decision, earlier Weili claimed that she was distracted by the “boos” from the crowd, and now she has come up with yet another excuse.

In My Bronze Age, Weili revealed that she was startled by the horrifying leg injury of Chris Weidman that happened before her fight, she said, “I touched gloves with Weidman when he left for the fight, and I said ‘good luck. I saw his leg snapped like that … I felt like my mind wasn’t completely focused on the match. I wasn’t as focused. You can’t lose focus for even 0.01 seconds. No, no. Weili follows a strict warrior code, and she believes it is the reason behind her incredible success, Weili won 20 straight fights to become the champion, and she accepts the fact that all the fame that comes with it caught up to her, and she lost focus of what really matters.

She said, “[My coach] always told me not to be distracted and I was a bit sad, because I think I already tried my best. ‘Do you think you can fight and win like this? Do you think you can be a champion like this?’”

“And I thought, ‘Is there anything wrong?’ Now I think about it, really, I can’t be like that. I really have to focus. After this fight went wrong and we all looked back to realize we were too fast. We didn’t pause to reflect, rewind and review. We didn’t have the time. We kept going forward.”
