Roger Federer might be out of action, but he is still very much active off court. The Swiss maestro recently announced an exciting contest for fans across the globe. The 20-time Grand Slam champion has been chosen as the judge for the UT Grand Prix 2022.

This while T-shirt design content has been initiated by his apparels sponsors UNIQLO. The competition was earlier introduced in 2005 to recognize and encourage artistic expression.

Federer signed a record-breaking deal (£230 million) with Japanese retail giant UNIQLO in 2018. This year, the company will commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of American author and cartoonist Charles M. Schulz.

The 40-year-old Federer took to Twitter to announce the competition.

“I was assigned to serve as a judge for the UT Grand Prix 2022,” Federer said in the video. “This year’s theme is Peanuts, and this competition was realized to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the author Charles M. Schulz. He was known for his love of tennis, and his works often depicted Snoopy enjoying tennis.”

“In honour of Mr. Schulz, I have decided to participate as a member of the judges, and this is your chance to have your t-shirt designs sold at UNIQLO stores around the world. I look forward to your entries. Have fun doing them, and I’ll see you soon,” the former World No.1 concluded.

The deadline for the entry date is 31 August. Considering Federer’s global fan following, expect intense participation.

Meanwhile, the Swiss player who was forced to call time on his 2021 season, will undergo surgery on his knee. Federer who returned to tour earlier in the year was far from his best.

He is also set to miss the Laver Cup in Boston. While there is no official word on Federer’s retirement, one wonders when and where the legend will make a comeback to tennis.
