Valtteri Bottas finished P3 in the qualifying session at the Spanish GP on Saturday, as he starts in the second row alongside Charles Leclerc. The Finnish driver has had a poor start to the season, as he is currently fourth in the championship standing after three races.
Valtteri Bottas believes that the battle for the pole position on Saturday was a close one, as Lewis Hamilton secured the 100th pole position of his career. Max Verstappen, Bottas and Hamilton all failed to better their timings in their last lap of the Q3 session. The former was better in the third sector, whereas, Hamilton set the pace in the first sector.
Valtteri Bottas expects a tough race on Sunday
Valtteri Bottas expects a tough race between Red Bull and Mercedes on Sunday, as Max Verstappen split the two Silver Arrows once again. The Finnish driver finished on pole position at the Portugal GP last week, but ended up finishing only P3 in the main race.
“That was close. [I was] definitely in for the battle for pole. I think it’s going to be very close between us and Red Bull in the race,” said Bottas.
So far, Valtteri Bottas has finished P3 in Bahrain, and did not finish the race in Imola after a crash with George Russell. The Finnish driver finished on the third spot again in Portugal, and will hope to secure a win in Spain on Sunday.
