Vasek Pospisil voices support for Novak Djokovic amid Australian Open 2021 controversy
World No.1, Novak Djokovic is one of the most progressive minds in the tennis fraternity. However, the politically outspoken character of the Serb is time and again misunderstood and criticized.
Recently, he gave a few suggestions to the CEO of Tennis Australia on improving the quarantine conditions for the players in the Melbourne bubble but unfortunately, his kind gesture was again mistaken for him abusing his privileges.
When the Serbian issued a statement himself clarifying his stance on the whole situation; it came to the surface that the list of requirements was not for him, but for players in the Melbourne bubble.
Apart from this, the 33-year-old recently cheered for two Adelaide boys playing tennis outside his hotel room. In doing that, he not only gave them a lifelong memory to cherish, he also helped people to see him in a better light.
“Novak doesn’t get enough credit for his openness and generosity” – Vasek Pospisil
Last year, during early September; Novak along with Canadian Vasek Pospisil built the Professional Tennis Player’s Association (PTPA) to improve players’ position on the ATP tour. Similar to many of his stand-alone ventures, people and players criticized him.
To reveal more about the Serbian World No.1’s generosity, Pospisil replied on the Adelaide boys’ video saying:
“Novak doesn’t get enough credit for his openness and generosity,” Vasek wrote. “I see it and experience it first hand behind the scenes on a regular basis. Nice memory here for the two kids.”
Djokovic will begin the year at the star-studded exhibition match in Adelaide on January 29th. Next up, he will be traveling to Melbourne Park.
Before Novak takes on the Australian Open, where he is the defending champion; the Serbian ace will play in the ATP Cup 2021 as the Number 1 player for his country.
If Djokovic lifts the trophy in Melbourne, he will be the winner for a record-extending ninth–time and moreover, shorten the GOAT race for the most number of Majors.
