Victoria Azarenka pulls out of WTA Madrid Open 2021, 3rd withdrawal of the 2021 Season

Victoria Azarenka‘s struggles with injuries continue as she is forced to pull out of the ongoing WTA Madrid Open 2021. The World No. 15 who was also seeded 12th was supposed to play her 2nd round game against American Jessica Pegula but had to give a walkover due to her injury.

The Madrid Open was the 5th appearance of the former World No. 1 but her lower-back injury has made her withdraw from the tournament which now has been her 3rd such exit out of the 5 appearances this year.

In the statement put out by Victoria, she said, “I’m very disappointed to withdraw from the tournament. It’s been a really disappointing season for me physically, where at times I’ve felt like I’m playing really well but I’m not able to sustain my level.”

Victoria Azarenka had been struggling with form since her 2014-15 injury setback and personal problems and had recently found form in 2019-2020, reaching the Finals of the 2020 US Open which she lost in a crunchy 3-setter game.

Talking about the recent injury in her statement, she further said, “I’m really looking forward to finding the solution and I hope I’ll do that and to be back playing as soon as possible.”

With more than half of the season to play, fans will be wishing for the Belarusian star’s successful comeback and see her in action again on the tour.
