The Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) has announced the squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy to be held from February 20 to March 14. Mumbai has always been the heavyweight across all formats. This time too they have named a strong squad with Shreyas Iyer leading and Prithvi Shaw as his deputy. Other notable players including Suryakumar Yadav, Tushar Deshpande and Dhaval Kulkarni.
Initially, a total of 100 members were called for the probables by MCA. All the players were split into 3 squads. The teams played against each other with the top performers getting selected from the list. With the withdrawal of Amit Pagnis who was appointed as coach this year after a poor T20 tournament, Ramesh Pawar has been appointed for this season. Having experienced coaching the Indian Women’s team Mumbai could go further through the tournament.
Mumbai’s squad and structure of the tournament
This time the teams in the Vijay Hazare Trophy are split into 5 elite groups of six teams each and the other group being the Plate group. Teams in the Elite group would play in different venues specified as Surat, Indore, Bengaluru, Jaipur, and Kolkatta. The plate group matches would be held in Chennai.
All the players have to be report at the specific venues on February 13 and get their COVID-19 test done. Group matches will be held from February 20 to March 1. The knockouts would be held after a gap of 1 week.
