The first ODI between India and England ended in favor of the hosts at the MCA Stadium in Pune as they sparked a great turnaround with the ball just as it looked like England were running away with the game. The win was fashioned by a good all-round performance that saw India post a good total on the board before bowling out the opposition albeit after more than a few nervous and jittery moments.
Shikhar Dhawan led from the front with the bat as he got to a 98. Virat Kohli also scored a half-century as did KL Rahul and Krunal Pandya who exploded at the death. In the chase, England came out all guns blazing and looked set to ace the chase before quick wickers from the likes of Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna helped India claw their way back and seal a 66-run victory.
Watch – India miss a huge chance to dismiss Eoin Morgan
In the 17th over bowled by debutant Prasidh Krishna, Ben Stokes was dismissed as he hit one straight to the cover fielder. In next was skipper Eoin Morgan who poked at a delivery outside-off and edged it to Virat Kohli at slip. The Indian skipper dived but couldn’t hold on to the catch. Meanwhile, the batsman had charged down the pitch and was nowhere near the crease. Kohli threw the ball at the stumps and missed. Further, there was no one backing up at the wicket-keeper’s end as inexplicably Morgan survived.
